multiple personality disorder response
after reading the article about mulitiple personality disorder, i learned a lot about the disease. i always thought that multiple personality disorder meant that the person would be like jekyle and hyde, and would be two seperate personalities, but i learned (on the second page, bottom paragraph) that a person suffering from multiple personality disorder could have 13 to 15 diffrent personalities. multiple personality disorder is triggered usually from a tramatic event in childhood. after experiencing a tramatic event, the victim will most likely begin to have multiple personalities, probably to try to escape the reality that something terrible had happend to them. there is no cure for this disease, however therapy is very helpful in making it managable. i was woundering, is multiple personality disorder similiar to bipolar disorder? when i think of jekyle and hyde i think of two opposite people, and when i think of drastic change in behavior, which reminds me of bipolar disorder.

Interesting question about the relationship between multiple personality disorder and bipolar disorder. I am sure they are related on some level with the severe switch that happens. I think that bipolar is more related to a mood switch that is extreme. In Mutiple personality disorder a person develops a whole separate personality that they are not even aware of. Both forms of menatl illness are quite difficult to manage I am sure.
ReplyDeletei agree, i think bipolar disorder is more that the persons mood would change dramatically, but someone with multiple personality disorder, they have a completely diffrent personality (and even voice and attitude, like when you said how one person would switch from a grump old man to a young child)
