It is clear that Mr.Edward Hyde is indeed the man who killed Sir Danvers Carew, and it is disgusting to think that anyone would take the life of another, but it is my duty to make sure Sir Danvers did not die in vain, and this never have to happen to anyone else's family.I understand that some people say Mr.Hyde was not responsible, or in controll of his actions, which i strongly disagree with. it was his choice to kill Sir Danvers, and his alone. his actons and judgement were not impared by any means at all. even so, if he is insane he is a threat to society, and must be put in an asylum. if there is any way to prevent another innocent civilians death, then as members of the jury i would hope you all understand that this man needs to be put away for the rest of his life.
i am sorry to say that Sir Danvers Carew is no longer with us, but there is nothing i can do to change that. i know all of you share my remorse for his loss, but if you release this man, and he kills again-well, you will have to answer to God on your judgement day, and tell him why you let this happen.

character/theme
i think that Mr.Utterson represents the theme of Friendship/doing the right thing in the story, by trying to see the good in everyone, like Dr.Jekyll. Utterson knew that after Mr.Guest had told him that Mr.Hyde and Dr.Jekyll's handwriting was very similar, it probably ment that Jekyll was lying, but he still tried to beleive that the it was just a coincidence.
Also, when Mr.Utterson met Hyde he was being very polite and repectful, even though Hyde was being rude to him. Mr.Utterson seems to be a well-liked person because of the way he treats others, which was important to his society. he was a lawyer so he was probably decently wealthy too.
I think Dr.Jekyll displays his care for friendship by trying to cover for Hyde, but i actually have a theory:
I think Jekyll and Hyde are the same person, and this is because of a mistake Jekyll made with his science, whatever he was trying to experiment was the reason Lanyon distanced himself from Jekyll. something probably went wrong and now, Hyde will be the sepreate person/personality that takes over sweet Dr.Jekyll. notice that you never see Jekyll and Hyde together? and that after Hyde went "missing" Jekyll seemed sick? thats my theory. anyone agree?

"Story of the Door" Reaction
while thinking about "the story of the door", something that stood out to me was the fact that Dr.Jekyll was willing to bribe the family to make sure his reputation wouldnt be damaged. if he hadnt bribed the family, they probably would have been talking about him to the rest of the town, and it would give a lot of attention (but not good attention)to him. i think that based on Dr.Jekyll's personality traits, he didnt bribe the family to keep his good reputation, i think he did it because he wants to lay low for some reason. he lives in an abandoned house, he isnt friendly, i think he just wants to keep to himself. i feel like Dr.Jekyll is so unusual, he is basically the complete opposite of what society wanted to see in that time period. it is besides the fact that he is disfigured, most people would probably be tolerant of that; i think people would be more bothered by his lack of manners and that he is very anti-social.
i cant really tell what the theme is supposed to be at this point, and i havent really seen anything that would be considered having multiple personalities, because so far Dr.Jekyll is only really mean. and so far we dont even know where mr.hyde is. i hope we discover what the theme is, or learn more about the society the story is taking place in.

multiple personality disorder response
after reading the article about mulitiple personality disorder, i learned a lot about the disease. i always thought that multiple personality disorder meant that the person would be like jekyle and hyde, and would be two seperate personalities, but i learned (on the second page, bottom paragraph) that a person suffering from multiple personality disorder could have 13 to 15 diffrent personalities. multiple personality disorder is triggered usually from a tramatic event in childhood. after experiencing a tramatic event, the victim will most likely begin to have multiple personalities, probably to try to escape the reality that something terrible had happend to them. there is no cure for this disease, however therapy is very helpful in making it managable. i was woundering, is multiple personality disorder similiar to bipolar disorder? when i think of jekyle and hyde i think of two opposite people, and when i think of drastic change in behavior, which reminds me of bipolar disorder.
